Acts 12:7-8 (NIV) And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. 8 And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.”
King Herod was feeling full of himself as he got kudos from the people when he had the Apostle James killed with the sword so he arrested Peter, intending to do the same to him. But God had other plans. The Lord sent one of His angels to break Peter out of jail right under the noses of the prison guards. Peter was chained with two guards beside him and with four squads of soldiers guarding him. But when the angel came at night, the power of God caused the chains to fall off and they walked out of that jail like they owned the place! God is a jailbreaking God. He did the same thing with Paul and Silas when they were flogged and thrown in a dungeon. That time, He made the jail building shake so violently that all the cell doors broke open! Nothing is too hard or impossible with God.
But the best jailbreaking that the Lord does is of a different kind. It's one thing to be in jail physically, but it's another to be in a prison in your own mind or to be locked up in emotional turmoil, wallowing in depression. People don't know what to do with that or even how to handle people who are suffering that way. Jesus came to take care of that for us and to set us free. No one else has the solution to the human mind and soul like Jesus does. And no wonder, since He is our Maker. He is the one who created us and formed us. Who would know better than He what is going on in our minds and in our souls that would cause that kind of emotional and psychological turmoil? Being a part of this turbulent world, we are many times exposed to harmful things, harmful actions against us by others and emotionally disturbing situations and circumstances. All of those things can leave a mark on our minds and souls and the only one that knows how to handle that and heal us is our Lord and Savior, Jesus. All we need to do is ask Him to help us and then trust Him to do it. We need to believe that He will do it. Once we do, we will experience a miraculous jailbreak of our mind, heart and soul. Jesus said that He came to set the captives free and that's exactly what He has done for so many and what He continues to do for all who put their trust in Him.
Don't remain in a jail cell in your mind or in your emotions. Let Jesus break you out for your healing and for His glory. He is the Master Jailbreaker and He is ready and willing to set you and me free! Trust Him to do it.
